    What You Need to Know Before You Take a Flight: a blog idea on everything a traveller needs to know before they decide to fly.
    1. Intro


    The smart traveler and the skilled airline traveler have an important question to ask.
    What do I need in my carry-on to avoid overloading my bag?
    I’m not a frequent flier. I don’t have to worry about baggage fees. I just want to be prepared for any inclement weather, extreme heat, or cold. What do I need in my carry-on?
    For the answers, we turn to a long list of items that everyone needs:
    1) First-aid kit (and spare bottles of water)
    2) Sunscreen (and other sun protection, including hats and sunglasses)
    3) A change of clothes
    4) A good book/guidebook for a specific destination/culture/language
    5) Phone charger and data plan for emergencies (or if you are stranded at an airport without a data plan!)


    2. How to Pack for a Trip


    I’m going on a trip next month and I’ve decided to avoid buying tickets in advance, instead opting for a more flexible itinerary. My first instinct is to buy round-trip tickets and hope for the best. But then I realized that United Airlines does not allow you to check bags on flights.

    So what will be my strategy? Will I book a round trip flight with full luggage? Or will I only take a carry-on bag, as I’m not interested in carrying too much stuff over the seven day trip?
    I’ve heard there are some airlines that allow you to check either bags or only take carry-ons on your flights but do not allow baggage, but I really don’t want to go through the trouble of checking bags again and again if my bag gets lost during the journey. For example, Delta allows you check either bags or carry-on and they do not require you to top up your luggage allowance on your way back. Would you recommend taking this approach or would you prefer to purchase ticket upfront with full luggage allowance?

    3. United Airline Phone Number of Packing Light


    The first step in packing light is to decide how much clothing you’ll need based on how long you’ll be traveling, whether you’ll be checking a bag or only taking a carry-on, and where.
    For the sake of comparison, I’m going to assume that each item will weigh 1 pound (0.35 kg), travel in a small suitcase, and if checked through the airline’s baggage-filling system, will end up costing $28 ($11.46 from United Airlines and $10 from United Express).
    If I were to check all my luggage (not possible for me), I’d have a total weight of 4 pounds (1.8 kg) and would pay $150 ($16.20 from United Airlines and $12 from United Express).
    If I travel with just my carry-on, it’s not possible for me to check this weight at all; instead of paying $150 ($16.20), I just pay $100 ($10.00). If I don’t check at all because I want to save money and avoid the hassle of packing extra clothes (I can always put them on when I arrive), then what do we end up with?
    A total weight of 2 pounds (0.9 kg) and an average cost of $50 ($6.87) — which is still cheaper than an average flight with checked luggage.
    This is why many travelers prefer to skip carrying bags: they know that they can take items they wish to take with them along with their clothing when they arrive at their destination — without having to deal with the hassle of putting everything into bags as well as struggling through customs lines at airports or shipping companies… However, if your goal is to keep costs low by avoiding going through the hassle of packing extra clothes in bags, then this rule may not apply as much as you think: if your goal is financial freedom but not travel expenses for your clothes (i.e., what you can afford each month), then there are better ways than packing light: take one bag instead of two! Just be careful about checking things without any reason… 😉 .


    4. Choosing What to Take

    Here are some handy pointers when it comes to choosing what to bring on a plane:
    1. Bring a bag with only one small item (not recommended)
    2. If you're flying first class, bring your laptop/tablet/cell phone along unless you're on business (which requires you to travel with whatever device you want)
    3. Only take one carry-on bag per flight and do not overpack - even if your destination is far from home
    4. Know your limits and book your flights early, especially if you’re traveling for leisure or vacation. In 2017 alone there were nearly 1 million air travel cancellations in the US - that's more than 1 out of every 3 flights!

    5. Making Sure Everything Fits Properly


    United Airlines is the world’s largest airline, with around 20 million passengers flying to or from North America every year. The company, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, was founded in 1945 by Dr. John G. Landis, an aviation surgeon who wanted to offer travel at a cheap price.
    Even before the United States’ entry into World War II in 1941, Landis had sold his airline, Trans-International Aviation Services (TIAV), which was based in London and served the private sector with more than 100 aircraft. In 1944 he formed United Airlines as a result of his own business experience — he had been a pilot for some time and was familiar with the nature of flying and operations.
    In 1947 he took out a $50 million bond issue that secured him enough capital to buy 60 planes at below cost (the so-called “Landis bond”) and began operating under that name. He also set out to build up a fleet of aircraft that would be used primarily by small airlines so they could fly on the same routes as commercial airlines without having to spend too much on fuel or other operating expenses.
    While he hoped these new planes would carry only two or three passengers each, they were used primarily for first class seating — hence United Airlines — allowing him to build up an industry-leading fleet turnover rate: about 60% per year over a 20-year period.
    At first United offered only flights between major cities in North America; it did not enter Europe until 1959, when it began serving London via Boston by 1960 (it formally entered Europe in 1961). By 1961 it was doing transatlantic flights between New York City and Paris; later that year it began serving Tokyo via Chicago. That same year it opened its first international hub at Heathrow Airport near London — making it one of the world’s first international carriers outside North America! It served both European and Asian markets until 1970 when its main hub was established at Newark Airport near New Jersey (it served Toronto Canada through Newark Airport until 1977). During its early years many people thought United would eventually become part of British Airways or Air Canada but instead it remained true to its American roots and continued as an American carrier during its long existence.

    6. Conclusion
